Made Selective Dry Off Easily
The dry -standing period is an unproductive time in terms of milk production, but the cow has been proven to prepare the upcoming lactation (Mansfeld, 2012). The lactation number and the udder health status are crucial for the length of the dry stand period.
With regard to udder health, the dry stand period serves primarily to heat existing infections. However, the udder must also be protected against the risk of new infections because they can affect udder health in the following lactation. It can make sense to not put all animals of a herd antibiotic dry and not to use the same antibiotic dryer for everyone.
To make animal -specific decisions when it comes to simply make it dry
a concept was developed. Prof. Dr. Volker Krömker (HS Hannover)
and Prof. Dr. Rolf Mansfeld (LMU Munich) discussed in a working group
Well -known study results on the subject of drying management and put together a questionnaire, with the answers of which decisions on
Design of drying management management. This questionnaire led to a decision tree and was integrated into an app.
The following goals are pursued:
- Individualized dry -standing concepts should help to erlast more milk.
- Uder health should be kept or even improved.
- The use of antibiotics should be targeted and responsibly and, if possible, reduced.
This app offers the chance to be able to make a decision with regard to the length of the dry stand, the type and length of the therapy with the answering of 12 questions. The user receives the recommendation whether he should use a dryer and if so, which. In addition, a proposal is made for the length of the drying time and the possible use of a teat sealer.
